MESA COUNTY REAL ESTATE
Located in the middle of the Western border of Colorado, Mesa County is one of many counties in the Western Slope. Grand Mesa is just one of the large mesas in Mesa County’s 3,341 square miles, but it’s also home to a population of approximately 155,703 Coloradans (as of the 2020 census). The city of Grand Junction is the county seat, but its other cities and towns include Fruita, Palisade, Clifton, Fruitvale, Loma, Orchard Mesa, and Redlands, just to name a few.
Perhaps the best part of Mesa County is its numerous protected areas – from conservation territories to national forests, and state parks to historic monuments, there are a lot of places in Mesa County that are being preserved and protected by a variety of federal, state, and county agencies.
The Dominguez Canyon Wilderness, Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness, Dominguez-Escalante National Conservation Area, and the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area are governed by the Bureau of Land Management, while the U.S. Forest Service governs Mesa County’s 4 National Forests: Grand Mesa, Manti-La Sal, Uncompahgre, and White River. The Colorado National Monument, governed by the National Park Service, hosts a visitor center and numerous activities including horseback riding, bicycling, hiking, and scenic drives.
With 9 beautiful federally protected areas plus 3 stellar state parks, it’s easy to assume that commuting to and from Mesa County might be inconvenient, but that’s not the case! Interstate 70, US 6, and US 50 are all easily accessible and central to the populated areas of Mesa County, plus there are 5 state highways that traverse the area. With several major highways PLUS its own regional airport at Grand Junction, traveling is no problem at all.
